Financial Literacy with Citi Bank and Junior Achievement

This past week, CHAH students worked with financial lawyers from Citi Bank through a program called Junior Achievement. The finance folks taught the kids about proper budgeting, the differences between good and bad debt, and how to create and manage savings and checking accounts. Important life skills for the 21st Century!

Students also worked in groups to create public service announcements on financial topics. Some creative PSAs were shared!

Open Mic Night at CHAH

This past Friday was Open Mic Night at CHAH! Students and teachers performed music, poetry, and storytelling.

The guest performers were Jade Zabric and Rapper Adrian from the Bronx. Jade reached out after the show to say how impressed she was with our students! Her music is on Spotify and Bandcamp, if you are interested.

Latino College Expo at NYU Kimmel Center

Last week, CHAH students attended the Annual Latino College Expo at the Kimmel Center at New York University! They heard Mr. Luis Ubinas, the former president of the Ford foundation, Harvard graduate and the keynote speaker of the event, encourage students to “work towards the highest points you can earn...be hungry, be disciplined.”

Nathaly Ames and Joel Sinchi listened attentively to the presenters and panelist about college life and choosing a major.

Lisbeth Acevedo took the opportunity to ask the admission reps about the different majors Fordham University offers.

Beyoncé Barcelo listen carefully to the reps form the US coast Guard discuss various opportunities in joining.

Junior Achievement Leaders Teach at PS 4!

Last week, several CHAH 11th Graders worked with the program Junior Achievement and taught lessons at the nearby grade school, PS 4!

Alfonsina Frias, the program manager, observed the CHAH students teaching the elementary kids.

She was impressed, saying that the CHAH students “were knowledgeable about the different topics they covered” and that they were “well prepared.”
