Cross Country Wins 4 Medals in 3 Races!

The CHAH Cross Country Team had 3 medalists in their meet at Van Cortland on October 2nd. Last week, the team had earned one medal. This brings the entire team to 4 medals in just 3 races!

Bruce Mata led the way for the Phoenix runners with Janaivi Sosa and Billy Staack not far behind also winning medals. This is Bruce Mata’s second medal of the season.

Congrats to the entire team and Coaches Harris and Dickhudt for a great season thus far. Go CHAH, go!

Chancellor Carranza, Deputy Mayor Thompson, endorse Career Clue

This summer, CHAH’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics program called Career Clue was publicly endorsed by NYC School Chancellor Richard Carranza and Deputy Mayor Phil Thompson at a press conference. The program is designed to get students prepared for careers in STEM fields and provide them with the background and skills necessary for jobs in the 21st Century economy.

Mr. Carranza and Mr. Thompson spoke with students and gave speeches. A CHAH student in the program, Donarly Fernandez, also delivered a moving speech to a room full of students, reporters, and high-level government officials.

Career Clue is part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Career Ready NYC initiative, a move toward career-based technological education. The program is run in partnership with the sustainability nonprofit Solar One, CareerReady Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provider Community League of the Heights, and community-based organization United Community Schools. CHAH is incredibly proud to be a part of this program!

Student Athletes Celebrated at CHAH Sports Banquet

Tuesday June 11th was the Second Annual All Sports Banquet! Each team was honored for their accomplishments throughout the 2018-19 season. Scholar athletes and three sports athletes were recognized for their achievements.

Each team honored a different athlete as Most Improved Player, Teammate Award and Most Valuable Player. Dinner was served and parents and family members attended.
