Boys Basketball Team plays in "Scholars through Sports" Tournament

The boys basketball team spent Martin Luther King Jr weekend playing in the Scholars through Sports Foundation MLK Jr event at LaGuardia High School. CHAH defeated traditional city power Frederick Douglass Academy 57-53. Leuri Sosa was named game MVP.

The event organizer went off his way to commend our boys on how they handled themselves on and off the court. The Boys Basketball Team also had 100% attendance in school on Tuesday, January 16 following the snow storm. This highlights the motivation that participation in sports offers students, both here at CHAH and across the country.

Congrats on the win and making the school proud!

Wednesday Morning Basketball (aka "Cronin-Ball"

Mr. Cronin holds a morning pickup basketball game every Wednesday from 7:00 - 8:45 am. Lots of students show up every week and learn the game while having fun.

This week, several CHAH Alumni showed up and played. They shared their experiences about college and the workplace with our high school students and had fun up and down the court.

Great job, Mr. Cronin, for keeping this longstanding pickup game a tradition!

Students Visit Mercedes-Benz Headquarters

CHAH students visited the Mercedes-Benz USA Manhattan headquarters last week as part of Junior Achievement job and career readiness series.

The job shadow included a salesroom tour, a Body Shop tour, and a tour of the service and parts facility. Our students were able to ask questions and speak to various members of the Mercedes-Benz team, who provided valuable insight towards preparation in the sales car industry. All were given the unique opportunity to sit behind the wheel and take a closer at some of the luxury cars!

CHAH's First CBO Showcase

Last week, CHAH hosted our first every CBO Showcase! CBO stands for Community-Based Organization. The event showcased the partnerships we have here at CHAH, such as SisterSol, Brotherhood, Double Discovery Columbia, Arts Connection, Skills Springs (formerly known as Geriatric Career Development).

The entire school was involved in grades 6-12th. Students were made aware of the benefits of these community based partnerships and educated on how to take advantage of opportunities to enhance their career endeavors, future options and knowledge.
