2021-22 Season Summary

CHAH Boys Basketball had their best season in school history! Led by an outstanding Senior class (on and off the court) CHAH boys went 22-1 in the regular season including an undefeated 14-0 league record. The regular season was just the beginning, however, as the boys qualified for the prestigious Manhattan Borough tournament and advanced to the quarter finals. By making this event, CHAH was the first ever Class B school to be chosen.

In the PSAL playoffs, the magical run continued as the boys advanced all the way to the PSAL Final. On that run the team faced, and defeated, rivals and Class B powers South Bronx Prep, Maspeth and Fannie Lou Hamer. The team was led by the seniors with Sayvior Carroll (22 PPG, 6 APG, 6 RBG) becoming one the top players in the PSAL. Fellow captains Adrian Mejia (17 PPG, 81 3s) and Dave Calderon (7 PPG, 10 RPG) had big years while underclassmen John Harrington (20.5 PPG) and Elias Santos (9.3 RPG, 2.5 BPG) were major factors.

The boys were rewarded with individual honors as Sayvior Carroll and John Harrington made the All-State Team and Adrian Mejia was awarded the Pinstripe Bowl Scholar Athlete award.

Senior Trehvon Cox was given the Teammate Award and senior Brayan Serra was the Most Improved Player.

Spring 2021 Season Summary

The Boys basketball battled through everything thrown in their way to have a great season! Due to COVID restrictions, the boys were forced to start the season outside and were only given 6 league games. That did not deter the team as they took advantage of the outside and had several great games and scrimmages on the blacktops of NYC!

Sayvior Carroll (14.5 PPG, 6 APG, 5 RPG) led the team and Adrian Mejia (18 PPG, 68 3s) came on to have a breakout junior season and turned into one of the top shooters in the PSAL. Freshman John Harrington (20.5 PPG) brought a dynamic scoring punch, junior Dave Calderon (7 PPG, 11 RPG) led the with his athleticism and sophomore Elias Santos (8 RPG, 2 BPG) came on and provided size and shot blocking.

Overall, the Boys finished the season 17-3 and went 6-0 in league games. Included in this were big wins over Defending A division city champs Frederick Douglass and 2 wins over A power East Harlem. The spring 2021 team was a very talented and focused group that did not get a chance to have a playoff run due to COVID-19 but still put together one of the best seasons in school history!

2017-18 Season Summary

The CHAH Boy's Basketball Team had the finest season in our five-year history in the PSAL! The team went 15-0 in league play and 24-4 overall. The undefeated league record gave us our second consecutive league championship. In the non-league schedule, we defeated Class A power Flushing and Class AA state power Christian Brothers Academy. In addition, we were the champions of the BCAM Holiday classic and made our annual trip to Syracuse. We also made an exciting run in the playoffs, getting the 3 seed (out of over 100 PSAL Class B schools), winning 3 playoff games and advancing all the way to the New York City Semifinals.

The Senior Class of 2018 consisting of Steven Carbajal, Alex Cortez, and Eddie Pimentel finished their remarkable careers without losing a home game for two seasons. Carbajal and Pimentel reached the 1,000 point mark and Cortez led the league in three pointers made for the second consecutive year. They will be missed but never forgotten by the CHAH Basketball Program.
