Principal

It is a great privilege to serve as principal of Community Health Academy of the Heights - better known as CHAH by our friends and students. CHAH is a  6-12, public school that has been serving northern Manhattan since 2005. CHAH is consistently ranked as one of NYC’s top public high schools by the US News and World Report. Our mission is to help our students develop into civically engaged, responsible, global citizens - actively participating in a diverse society.

Educating the whole child is a large part of what makes CHAH a special place. As a first-round PROSE school, CHAH exemplifies what a community school should be - placing a high priority on wrap around services that address the needs of the entire community. Through a strong partnership with our CBO, Community League of the Heights, CHAH offers a variety of after school programs for families and community members including family workshops, Zumba, Yoga, and ESL classes as well as SAT prep, clubs, programs, and sports for our students.

A school with exceptionally high standards, CHAH is committed to helping students achieve their personal and academics goals. Students at CHAH are encouraged to challenge themselves by taking high-level Advanced Placement courses, and to get involved in their school community through extracurricular activities such as student government, PSAL sports, clubs and community service internships. Students who graduate from CHAH are well-rounded having taken many rigorous courses in math, science, and the humanities as well as courses in visual arts, dance and music. Armed with an education rich in academics, art and culture, Students leave CHAH with a strong sense of community and an awareness of and belief in equity and access for all members of society.

CHAH prides itself on the deep cultivation of family relationships. Over 90% of our middle school students elect to stay at CHAH for their high school careers. This is a testament to the work of so many dedicated, caring professionals and allows us to form strong bonds with our students and their families. It is not uncommon for us to know and educate sisters, brothers, cousins and friends. In short, CHAH is more than a school - it’s a family!

We are very proud of the work we do at CHAH and invite you to visit our wonderful school if you are ever in the Washington Heights area. You will know once you step inside, that Community Health Academy of the heights is a rare community gem!

Sincerely,
David Falciani, Principal
