In 2019, CHAH added Ms. Vélez to the team as a full time Social Worker for students in 9th – 12th grade. Ms. Vélez provides mandated counseling for students with IEPs as well as individual & group therapy. All high school students receive a mental health awareness workshop and complete a mental health status survey. Students are then connected to services and resources based on their needs.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Ms. Vélez also provides internships for MSW candidates in graduate school interested in clinical social work with adolescents. Social Work Interns work with Ms. Vélez to conduct assessments, screenings, workshops, data collection & analysis, as well as collaborate with students, families and school staff in order to deliver holistic services to the school community.
