The CHAH Boys Basketball team spent all of Saturday at the College of Staten Island Team Camp. The team took the Staten Island Ferry where they saw some of New York's most famous sites-the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Once at the camp, the team played three games against teams from New Jersey, Brooklyn and Staten Island. It was a great experience and we are thankful to the College of Staten Island for including us.

CHAH Gets a Doctor's Visit, in a Good Way

This past week, several medical students from Columbia University Medical Center spoke at CHAH about access to medical care, career pathways for medicine, preparing for medical studies, financial aid, and mindset, believing they can go to medical school or other advanced studies if they set their minds to it. The medical students worked in small groups to allow CHAH students to work with the medical equipment they had brought, such as stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs.

CHAH is very grateful to the kind and thoughtful medical students who came today to work with our kids. It meant so much that bilingual, Latino medical students took the time to share their knowledge and their experiences with us in this way. Thank you, CUMC, for organizing this wonderful experience!

CHAH Students Attend Camp College

This summer, many CHAH students attended Camp College, an overnight stay at a university where students get to experience what college life will be like.

12th Grader Jeter Matos said that Camp College was "a great first hand experience with an actual college campus and living life as a college student. If I could do it again, I wouldn’t hesitate to accept."

He and other upcoming CHAH graduates are looking forward to extending their experience from Camp College by becoming actual college students.

10th Grader Katherine Castillo said, "My experience at Camp College was amazing." Castillo added that she "got an idea of how college is going to be. I got to learn about the process of applying and how important it is. I had an amazing experience and I’m really thankful for it."

CHAH Seniors Win Fundraising Competition & Donate to Waggytail Rescue

Over the holiday season, each CHAH cohort competed to raise the most money by donating pocket change as they entered the building. The winners of "Change for Change" were the senior class, who chose to donate the funds to help animals in need.

Waggytail Rescue is a NYC based non-profit that finds foster and permanent homes for stray, abandoned, or euthanasia-bound dogs. Volunteer Ami stopped by with Little Joe to meet some of the seniors who helped fundraise for the cause. If you are interested in supporting Waggytail, you can learn more at waggytailrescue.org or follow them on Instagram @waggytailrescue.
